Fletcher O'Leary
08 May 2009

Behind the smiles were plenty of tears on the set of Neighbours as cast and crew bid farewell to 11-year-old Fletcher O’Leary who has played Mickey Gannon for the past two years.

While small in statue compared to the rest of the team, according to his fellow cast mates, young O’Leary is big in personality and talent, and his heart-felt speech had even the most seasoned performers looking for a tissue.

A die-hard Carlton supporter of Victorian AFL, the Blues theme song was re-worded for the occasion and sung in semi-unison, lead by Steve Bastoni, as O’Leary’s final scene wrapped.

ODE TO FLETCHER (to the Carlton FC song).

WE ARE SO VERY BLUE. WE’RE VERY SAD WE’RE LOSING YOU.
YOU’RE THE ONE WHO NEVER LET’S US DOWN,
NEVER, EVER ONCE HAVE WE SEEN YOU FROWN.
THOUGH YOU PLAYED MICKEY, YOU CAN BETCHA WE LOVE YOU FLETCHER,
COZ WE KNOW THAT WE’VE BEEN LUCKY,
TO HAVE A NEIGHBOUR AS GOOD AS YOU!

Also making his final appearance was Jake, a black labrador, O’Leary’s on-screen companion for the past two years.

O'Leary will perform his final scene on air on Tuesday 14th July so make sure you check in to see how the youngster leaves the Street.
