Kate Ramsay

As the eldest, Kate is a natural leader. After the death of their beloved mother, Jill Ramsay, she had to look after her younger siblings Harry and Sophie and quickly became the responsible adult in the family.
As the eldest, Kate is a natural leader, mature, independent and trustworthy. Left orphaned when her mother Jill Ramsay was killed, Kate takes on the responsibility of keeping her family together.
Adopted at birth, Jill Ramsay had ony just come into contact with her half-brother Paul Robinson, and was arguing with him by the side of the street when she ran in to an oncoming car and later died in hospital with her three kids standing by. Devastated, Kate took on the role of mother of her brother and sister and became determined to keep them all together. Refusing any help, especially from anyone connected to Paul Robinson who they believed caused their mother's death, they stayed on in their family home, struggling to make ends meet. However, Elle guilty of the role her father played in the tragedy, offered them a cheque for $15,000, they were after all family and connected to the Robinson fortune. Proud, Kate rejected Elle and her money and threw her out of the house asking her never to come back again. However, Susan who had accompanied Elle, later returned with Dan to try and make an in-road as it was obvious these kids needed help. Kate is very protective of her brother Harry and sister Sophie, so getting close to them without Kate is near impossible, however Dan almost succeeded in getting Harry to open up until Kate insisted Harry stay on side and not talk to anyone associated with the Robinsons. But things quickly went from bad to worse for the Ramsays when the media started to harrass them outside their home. Elle then came up with an idea to get the media off their back, she would buy their story for $15,000 and the Erinsborough News.
They continued to struggle however, and Susan came to the rescue, telling Kate about Ramsay Street and her ancestors and their rightful link to the street. Eventually, Kate started to realise the people of Ramsay Street weren't so bad afterall and moved into number 24. However, Kate and Harry were unable to accept the kindness of everyone at first, and really struggle with living next door to Paul and Elle.
Meanwhile, Paul was under investigation as the murderer of Jill Ramsay and had skipped bail to search for the Ramsay kid's father. Then Rebecca noticed a picture Sophie had drawn showing she was at the scene when her mother was hit and was the missing link needed to prove Paul's innocence. Protective Kate however wouldn't have a bar of it and refused to allow anyone come near Sophie who was obviously suffering from the loss of her mother. Then Paul was let off the hook when the police turned up in Ramsay Street to arrest him and Sophie ran up to him and hugged him, thanking him for trying to help her mum. Paul then broke the news to the already grieving kids that their dad had died in the Philippines a few years ago. Without a mum or a dad, the orphaned kids set about making a life for themselves in Ramsay Street.
However, Kate's dramas at home got worse, it became clear that Harry was having behavioural problems trying to deal with the loss of his mother and the responsibility of caring for both Sophie and Harry and doing her Year 12 at Erinsborough High took it's toll. On top of that, she immediately clashed with Amanda Fowler who continually gave her grief in and out of school. She then started to become close to Donna and Bridget, bonding with Bridget because of being parents at such a young age, she also found herself forming a friendship with Declan, Bridget's husband, helping him plan his Mum's wedding to Paul. He in turn gave her budgeting advice and helped her try and work out Harry's issues. But it was Sophie that gave Kate the most help, encouraging her to stop carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders and relax from time to time to have some fun.
Can serious Kate let go and have some fun?
After the death of Bridget, Kate became more immersed in her friendships with the teens, especially Donna and Declan. Offering advice and support to her friends in times of trouble. Kate also became Donna's fashion model/business associate, helping her with her new fashion career and the launch of her 'shrugolero' empire! Then she found she had feelings for Declan, and the feelings were mutual.
However, Declan's family drama led to him becoming embroilled in some bad behaviour, which caused his and Kate's relationship to breakdown. Kate made a decision to move on from Declan and although he resisted, she managed to break away. Which was a good thing, because then she was single to be able to go out with the hot Detective Brennan, who she met while making a false statement to protect Rebecca in the part she played in Paul's accident.
And that's when love really blossoms for Kate. Or will it?
